English soccer is not dead yet

[EUROPA LEAGUE] A day after the last of the English clubs was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League, two EPL teams claimed spots in the semifinals of the Europa League.

Playing without the injured Clint Dempsey, Fulham beat Wolfsburg for the second time, winning, 1-0, in Germany. Meanwhile, Liverpool overcame a 2-1 deficit to win its second leg against Benfica, 4-1.

Bobby Zamora's goal after 21 seconds was all Fulham needed to move into the semifinals against another German team, Hamburg. The Cottagers had won in London, 2-1.

Hamburg, the host of the Europa League final, beat Standard Liege, 2-1 and 3-1.

Liverpool ended Benfica's 27-game unbeaten streak. Dirk Kuyt and Lucas Leiva scored first-half goals for the Reds, who pulled away thanks to a pair of goals by Fernando Torres.

Liverpool will meet Atletico, which advanced on away goals. It tied, 0-0 at home after drawing, 2-2, in Valencia a week earlier.
