[USA 30] All 30 players in the U.S. World Cup training camp were in full training for the first time on Saturday, but the status of a half dozen injured players
remained the topic of conversation. It was revealed that captain Carlos Bocanegra had undergone sports hernia surgery six days before the announcement of the
30-player provisional roster.
Because of abdominal pain, Bocanegra missed the last three games of France's Ligue 1 season with Rennes.
He had sports hernia surgery in
Munich.
Other injured players included goalie Tim Howard, defenders Jay DeMerit and Chad Marshall, midfielder DaMarcus Beasley and forward Eddie Johnson.
“There’s different timetables,” Bradley said. “There’s situations that need to be sorted out by next week so you can get to a 23-man roster. In other cases there’s
a guy like Carlos Bocanegra. He had this hernia surgery. As he comes into this camp we understand the right time frame of moving him along, so that he’s making progress every week and is ready
to go.”
Bradley has not said he will make any cuts before the USA faces the Czech Republic Tuesday in East Hartford, Conn.
He is expected to cut the roster down to or
near the limit of 23 before the next game against Turkey on Saturday in Philadelphia.
Cuts after Tuesday's games would allow the MLS players affected to return to their clubs before
weekend action.
Since the Americans leave for South Africa the day after the Turkey game, plans for the trip would probably need to be made beforehand.
