Chicago Red Stars fire Hayes

[WPS] Englishwoman Emma Hayes became only the second coach to be fired in during the Women's Professional Soccer season when the Chicago coach was relieved of her duties on Monday.

The Red Stars finished seventh out of eight teams with a 5-10-5 record are 1-4-1 after six games in 2010.

"I want to thank Emma for her hard work and assistance with the launch of the Red Stars franchise," Red Stars General Manager Marcia McDermott said. "This was a difficult decision to make because she poured her heart into the organization. We felt it was time for a change as we move forward and look to put together a successful run this season."

No replacement for Hayes has been named. Chicago's next game is against first-place FC Gold Pride Saturday at Toyota Park.

Ian Sawyers, another England native, was relieved of his duties as Sky Blue FC coach in the middle of last season. Sky Blue FC went on to win the title.
