Warming takes Happy Valley job

[PENN STATE MEN] An offseason of unprecedented upheaval saw another coaching legend make a move. Bob Warming, who built Creighton into a national power, has left the Bluejays to take the Penn State job that became vacant when long-time coach Barry Gorman took a position with MLS's FC Dallas.

"My entire family is excited about Penn State,” said Warming. “It was going to take a very special situation for us to ever leave Omaha and all the relationships we had built there and all the developments we have made with the soccer program. Penn State is that opportunity on every level. We are really looking forward to becoming part of the Penn State family and State College community.”

Warming, who coached at Creighton in 1990-94 and 2001-09, ranks sixth among active Division I head coaches and 15th in Division I history with 383 victories. Warming is also one of only two coaches in Division I to take two different programs to the Men's College Cup.

In between his tenures at Creighton, Warming coached one year at Old Dominion and served as head coach at Saint Louis University, where he guided it to four Conference USA championships and an appearance in the 1997 final four. He also spent one year as an athletic administrator at Furman.

Warming takes over the men's soccer program at one of the country's most famous athletic programs.

Penn State soccer has a long tradition, dating back to pre-World War II days when Bill Jeffrey, best known as the 1950 U.S. World Cup coach, was the head coach, but the Nittany Lions advanced as far as the NCAA final four only once. They finished third in 1979.
