Soccer City win gives Bafana Bafana boost

[WORLD CUP COUNTDOWN] Even if both of its goals from the penalty spot, South Africa earned a confidence-building win over Colombia, 2-1, before 75,000 fans in its first game at the rebuilt Soccer City, the site of the World Cup opener and final.

Teko Modise and Katlego Mphela scored for the Bafana Bafana. Colombia also scored from the penalty spot.

Stars Steven Pienaar and Benni McCarthy, who didn't play in Monday's 1-1 tie with Bulgaria, came on in the second half.

South Africa's last two warmups will be against Guatemala Monday and Denmark on June 5.

In the last game before Coach Morten Olsen cuts his squad down to 23 players, Denmark beat Senegal, 2-0, on goals by Christian Poulsen and Thomas Enevoldsen.

The Kansas City Wizards' Roger Espinoza did not play in Honduras' 2-2 tie with Belarus in Villach, Austria.
