U.S. team for finals named

[UNDER-20 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP] Coach Jillian Ellis has named the 21 players who will represent the USA at the 2010 Under-20 Women’s World Cup to be played July 13-Aug. 1 in Germany.

Ellis named her squad after a two-week training camp, the last extended domestic event for the U.S. team before it departs for Germany in early July.

The squad is led by UCLA sophomore Sydney Leroux, star of the 2008 U.S. U-20 championship team. Christine Nairn, who has been capped on the senior national team, also returns from the 2008 team.

The surprise selection was goalie Bryane Heaberline, who played for the U.S. U-17s, who failed to qualify for their world championship in Trinidad & Tobago later this year.

The USA will play two international matches before the finals, facing Japan on June 10 and Germany on June 13. Both games will be in Germany.
