Luck leaves Houston for alma mater

[MLS] Oliver Luck, who was largely responsible for making the Houston Dynamo one of MLS's strongest teams, is leaving to return to his alma mater, West Virginia University, as its athletic director.

Luck was a quarterback for the Mountaineers before playing in the NFL for the Houston Oilers.

"I would like to thank AEG for giving me the privilege of leading the Dynamo over the last the last four and a half seasons," said Luck. "Soccer has a very bright future in Houston, and I wish the organization nothing but the best moving forward. Both the Dynamo and the City of Houston will always occupy a very special place in my heart."

AEG moved the San Jose Earthquakes to Houston in late 2005 and the Dynamo won MLS titles in 2006 and 2007.

The Dynamo has drawn well at Robertson Stadium but continues to press for the construction of a stadium of its own.

Dynamo chief operating officer Chris Canetti will direct the Dynamo's business operations.
