Charleston and Harrisburg upset MLS teams

[U.S. OPEN CUP] MLS's New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire fell at home to teams from the third division USL-2 in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night. The Harrisburg City Islanders beat New York, 1-0, and the Charleston Battery knocked off the Fire on penalty kicks -- the eighth MLS team it has beaten in Open Cup play.

Substitute Dominic Oppong scored for Harrisburg in the 117th minute for the only goal in the game.

Lamar Neagle, Mike Zaher and player-assistant coach Ian Fuller scored for the Battery in its 3-1 shootout win after the game ended scoreless after 120 minutes.

The Fire missed two and had a third attempt saved by goalkeeper Tim Melia.

Struggling D-2 Pro League team AC St. Louis held MLS 's top team, the Los Angeles Galaxy, for a half before falling, 2-0, on second-half goals by Chris Klein and young Brazilian Juninho, his first for the Galaxy.

Chivas USA edged D-2 Pro League leader Austin, 1-0, on Jesus Padilla's goal in Fullerton, Calif.

Steven Lenhart's goal in stoppage time gave the Columbus Crew a 2-1 win over the Rochester Rhinos.

The Houston Dynamo defeated Miami FC, 1-0, on Jamaica Lovel Palmer's goal before a crowd of crowd of 832 at Robertson Stadium.
