Sky Blue FC loses another goalie

[WPS] It's not been a good year for Sky Blue FC goalies. First, Jenni Branam went down with a knee injury during preseason. Now, Karen Bardsley has been sidelined indefinitely with a clavicle injury suffered Tuesday during a collision in a training session for the WPS All-Star Game.

Bardsley, the WPS Player of the Month for the month of May, had been named a starter in the WPS All-Star Game. She has five shutouts in 10 games.

"Obviously, Karen has been a vital part of our success here, and she has played a very important role in what we are trying to accomplish," Sky Blue FC coach Pauliina Miettinen said of Bardsley. "It is very unfortunate that injuries like this happen, but we must now move forward as a team."

Bardsley will join Sky Blue FC when the team travels to the White House on Thursday to be honored by President Barack Obama for winning the 2009 WPS Championship.

Branam, who led the New Jersey team to the 2009 WPS title, is aggressively rehabilitating her injury, but she is currently a couple of weeks away from being able to return to the field.
