Ghanaian Anthony Yeboah, one of his nation's biggest stars during a career in Germany's Bundesliga and the English Premier League in the 1990s, is frustrated at Africa's lack of
success at the 2010 World Cup.
"Apart from Ghana, all the teams have failed, and I find that sad," Yeboah said. "From a sporting point of view, this tournament is a disgrace for Africa. ... I am incredibly proud of Ghana. They are a real team, they would all give their lives to win.
Yeboah cites the intense pressure on the players during Africa's first time as host and the teams' coaches for the failures. "The European coaches add absolutely nothing," he said. "They don't understand the players, and they don't understand the mentalities of the countries."
A Ghana win over Uruguay in the quarterfinals would mark the first semifinal appearance by an African nation.
