The ranks of Concacaf players in Scottish soccer has increased by one, according to Glasgow Celtic manager Neil Lennon.
On Thursday, a day after Celtic lost an
exhibition to MLS expansion team Philadelphia, 1-0, Lennon said he hoped a deal for Efrain Juarez would be completed in time for him to play during Celtic's North American tour, which
continues in Toronto Friday with a friendly against Manchester United.
Juarez has played the past two seasons for UNAM Pumas, which is also in the USA, to play in SuperLiga; he is listed
on the team's roster for the competition but didn't play Wednesday in a 1-0 loss to New England. Lennon said he spotted Juarez when Mexico played England in a pre-World Cup friendly at Wembley.
Juarez, 22, played three World Cup games for Mexico. He was on the books at Barcelona and played for its B team before moving to Pumas in 2008.
