South Africa hires new coach

A few nations are taking their time finding a new head coach in the post-World Cup recovery phase, but not the host nation.

Pitso Mosimane, an assistant under World Cup head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, has been named as his successor by the South African soccer federation.

Mosimane will be in charge when South Africa plays Ghana in a friendly next month, and takes on his first competitive test in the fall with an African Cup of Nations group that includes Egypt, Sierra Leone and Niger.
