[COLLEGE] When you think of Alabama and college sports, you think of football. But soccer has found a home in Alabama as the Men's College Cup will be held at
Regions Park in Hoover in 2011.
In May, the NCAA men's and women's soccer committees recommended a combined championship starting in 2012.
UAB will be the host school for the final four, which will take place Dec. 9 and 11, 2011.
It marks the first time UAB has been named as the host school for an NCAA Division I championship in any sport.
“UAB, together with the cities of Birmingham and Hoover, put together a great championship bid,” said former U.S. international John Diffley, chair of the Division I Men's Soccer Committee and senior associate athletics director for administration at St. John’s. “We are excited to bring the event to a different part of the country, and we feel that Regions Park will present an outstanding experience for the student-athletes and the fans.”
