Ferguson, new Fifth Beatle, gets a good ribbing

The British invasion hit Kansas City this weekend with the presence of not one, not two but three knights. Sir Paul McCartney was in town Saturday night at the Sprint Center, as were Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and former United great Sir Bobby Charlton for United's game Sunday against the Kansas City Wizards. " I'm singing with him!' joked Ferguson, who was immediately dubbed the Fifth Beatle, about McCartney at a pregame press conference.

Wizards president Robb Heineman welcomed Ferguson and goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar with a plate of ribs and fries from Oklahoma Joe’s. "It’ll take us two days to finish this lot," said Ferguson of the plate placed in front of him. Added Heineman, “Gentlemen, if you enjoy these, we’re happy to provide as many of these prior to the match tomorrow as possible.”

Sluggish United played like its pre-game meal consisted of plates of greasy ribs. It fell to an MLS club for the first time, dropping a 2-1 decision before a crowd of more than 50,000.
