Altidore and Johnson both score

[AMERICANS ABROAD] American forwards Jozy Altidore and Eddie Johnson, both trying to make cases with the European clubs at which they've up until now failed to settle in, scored in friendly action over the weekend.

In Altidore's case, the goal for Villarreal came in its 2-2 tie against Besiktas, the Turkish club that is reportedly pursuing him for a permanent transfer.

Altidore was signed by Villarreal from the New York Red Bulls but then was loaned out to Xerez and Hull City.

Johnson impressed in Fulham's first game under its new manager, Mark Hughes. He scored and Clint Dempsey got an assist in a 5-1 friendly win over Werder Bremen.

Johnson is trying to work his way into a squad that has loaned him out twice since he arrived in January 2008 from the Kansas City Wizards. He went scoreless in four league appearances for Fulham last season before being loaned to Greece's Aris in January.
