Playmaker Yoann Gourcuff, whose differences with elder players on the French team were among the most-publicized conflicts within the troubled French camp at
the 2010 World Cup, has moved from Bordeaux to Lyon in a $28 million deal.
If the 24-year-old Gourcuff passes a medical, he will be the second major French signing for Lyon, which also
signed forward Jimmy Briand from Rennes.
Lyon moved to sign Gourcuff after Brazilian midfielder Ederson was
lost for several months with a severe hamstring injury suffered playing for Brazil against the USA in their recent friendly.
In other moves involving French internationals, champion
Marseille paid Toulouse $23 million for Andre-Pierre Gignac and hoped to announce the conclusion of a $20 million deal for Loic
Remy, the Nice striker who was found to have a heart condition.
