Indiana and Michigan State defeat Duke at ShinDigZ Festival

[MEN'S BIG TEN] The 10th annual ShinDigZ National Soccer Festival, the biggest pre-season tournament in the country, was a Big Ten affair as all seven men's conference teams traveled to Ft. Wayne, Ind. They went 3-2-2 against opposition that included four ranked teams.

Five of the seven Big Ten teams are ranked in the Soccer America Preseason Top 25:

-- #14 Ohio State had plenty of scoring opportunities, posting a 19-9 shot advantage, but fell to #18 Notre Dame, 2-0.

-- #16 Northwestern lost to #15 St. John's, 2-0, on a pair of first-half goals by midfielder Pablo Battuto Punyed.

-- #17 Penn State edged #20 Louisville, 2-1, thanks to two goals by junior forward Corey Hertzog.

-- #21 Indiana came away with a 2-1 win over #8 Duke thanks to goals by Will Bruin and freshman Nikita Kotlov.

-- #23 Michigan State also beat Duke, getting a goal from freshman Tim Kreutz to earn a 1-0 win.

-- Michigan tied Missouri Valley pre-season favorite Evansville, 1-1, getting the tying goal from former Yavapai JC star Justin Meram.

-- Wisconsin drew with Loyola (Ill.) by the same score. Senior Aaron Nichols scored the Badgers’ lone goal.
