Capello and England start their new cycle

Like many of the World Cup coaches, the tenure of Fabio Capello had seemed done once England went out in the round of 16.

But with two more years on his contract, thanks to an extension offered by the English Football Association and accepted by Capello prior to the World Cup, and two years of internationals including Euro 2012 on the horizon, he's still in charge.

The English open their qualifying schedule against Bulgaria and Switzerland during the first post-World Cup double-fixture window, and Capello is facing those pesky decisions of how to get results and also upgrade the squad.

Capello was so thin in goal that he had to call in Arsenal's fifth-choice goalkeeper, James Shea, to help out at the squad's first training session. Joe Hart will start in goal on Friday against Bulgaria.
