Hawks remain perfect

[MONMOUTH WOMEN] No. 22 Monmouth won its fourth game in a row when the Hawks beat defending America East champion Boston University, 2-1, on Monday afternoon.

Senior Mary Wilks' goal in the 70th minute was the difference for Monmouth, which improved to 4-0-0, its best start in 15 years.

"Today was a great result against a very good BU team," said Monmouth coach Krissy Turner. "We are off to a strong start, which is terrific. We will need to stay healthy, and battle, as it is a long season."

Freshman Dana Costello gave Monmouth the lead with her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the sixth minute, but BU equalized seven minutes later on Emma Clark's goal, the first against the Hawks on the season.

"Our team is training hard, getting fitter each day and when game time arrives we are competing and battling for good stretches of the match," added Turner. "Our goal is that when the end of September arrives, we are doing this for 90 minutes."
