WINNERS & LOSERS: Galaxy wins Open Cup; Beasley's PSV falls

Winners ...

The LOS ANGELES GALAXY won the U.S. Open Cup for the second time with a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas in the final Wednesday night thanks to Herculez Gomez';s side-volley from 12 yards out.

MARCUS HAHNEMANN extended his shutout streak to 403 minutes with a series of incredible saves and Reading stretched its unbeaten streak to 12 games in the English League Championship as the Royals tied Southampton on the road, 0-0. EDDIE LEWIS assisted on two goals as Leeds moved into sixth place in the Championship with a 3-1 win over Derby.

RAUL became the first player to score 50 goals in the Champions League as he helped Real Madrid beat Greek club Olympiakos, 2-1. The Spanish star surpassed Alfredo Di Stefano's mark of 49 in European competition.

ARTMEDIA BRATISLAVA pulled one of the biggest comebacks in the history of the Champions League when the Slovakian club came back from two goals down at FC Porto, the 2004 Champions League winner, to win its first group game in the competition, 3-2.

Losers ...

PSV looked nothing like the team that was semifinalist in last season's Champions League, falling to Fenerbahce, 3-0, in Istanbul on the second day of group play. The Dutch club played the second half with 10 men after Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink was sent off at the stroke of halftime for picking up two yellow cards. American DaMarcus Beasley came close to scoring for PSV early in he second half.

Legendary Hungarian club KISPEST-HONVED has been kicked out of the First Division for failing to pay debts to a former coach. Barnabas Tornyi had not received 40 million forints ($193,700) awarded by courts, so Kispest-Henved was relegated to the Second Division and barred from signing players on the transfer market by order of Hungarian league officials. The great Ferenc Puskas played for Kispest-Honved, which won 14 Hungarian titles.
