Volpe finds her scorer's touch

[ARIZONA STATE WOMEN] Last year, Kevin Boyd led Arizona State to the NCAA Women's Tournament for the first time since 2003, and he says the Sun Devils are that much better this year. A big reason is senior Karin Volpe, who has scored seven goals in six games for Arizona State, which is unbeaten heading into this weekend's trip to Tucson for a pair of tough matches against Ohio State and UCF.

The potent ASU attack produced nine goals last weekend at the Sun Devil Desert Classic.

The No. 19 Sun Devils scored four goals in the second half to dispose of Tennessee, 4-2, and then Volpe tied a school record with three goals in a 5-0 win over Nebraska.

"We have a very dangerous attacking team and it is starting to show up," said Boyd, who is in his fourth season after joining Arizona State from Pac-10 rival Cal.

He added that knew Volpe was going to start strong.

"She had a tremendous spring and she has looked good for quite some time," he said." She has found her scorer's touch. If she gets a ball in the box, she is going to have an excellent chance of putting it away."
