Hyndman: 'I thought Hartman was going to be up for MVP'

[MLS] New York Red Bull Thierry Henry inflicted a knee injury on FC Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartmann on Thursday when the
Frenchman celebrated Mehdi Ballouchy's goal by whacking the ball, which Hartmann had his foot on.
Hartman suffered an injured medial collateral ligament in his right knee
and left at halftime of the game that ended 2-2.
"The ball was there and like I do sometimes, I just wanted to kick the ball back in the net," Henry told AP. "He put his foot out there and
that's how he g ot injured. That was unfortunate. I w ent to apologize at halftime because I didn't mean to hurt him. He put his foot out
there and I just wanted to smash the ball back in the net. A pure accident. I told him I was sorry. He accepted it. It was one of those stupid things."

Hyndman said, "It's the weight it puts on us now. I thought Hartman was going to be up for MVP. Now we have to go get a pool goalkeeper. It was something that was not necessary, so we'll see
what happens."
Nobody feels worse than Henry.

What a piece of trash, selfish, and spoiled. There should be compensation to FC Dallas, and a suspension for Henry.
Agree. Hardly an accident. Suspension warranted.
Definitely trying to hurt Hartman. Its clear intent to injure. He had to have known Hartman would stick his foot out at that exact moment, but not be expecting the ball to be kicked. He's been planning that injury for weeks now.
Seriously? It was stupid for Henry to do and unlucky for Hartman. It sucks for Dallas, but things like that happen.
It's just bad all around. I imagine Henry feels awful about it. I would. Though he should have paid better attention. Bad for Hartmann. Bad for Dallas. Just plain bad. Not going to call Henry names, though you could justify a suspension.
Though have you never just done something and are just in a moment when you're focused on it, and you don't realize all that's going on around you? It happens all the time when people crash their cars. I don't think there was an intent, but only Henry knows. His handball though was clearly intentional against Ireland.
Clearly Bill an Adam have never played soccer and perhaps sports in general. Of course Henry does not deserve a suspension. Did you watchthe game? I happened to be at the game and the incident was an accident. Would you be calling for a suspension had the roles been reversed and Hartman went to clear the ball and struck Henry by accident? Probably not. What you don't read in the story is that Henry didn't just say "sorry" in passing. He actually helped Hartman all the way back to the locker room at halftime. He had his arm around him and him and hartman and the trainers were the last ones to go in at halftime. They spent 5 minutes on the field after the whistle. If you call for a suspension because of bone head accidents than half the league would be suspended most games. Cmon guys! Suspension? Really? And as far as Hartman for MVP... that is just Hindman trying to put more weight into this situation. Hartman is not an MVP canidate.
Suspension. How the official failed to call it a yellow (it's prohibited in the rule book and is--at BEST--wildly irresponsible) is beyond me. Oh, yeah, I forgot--it's Thierry Teflon. Thierry has made a career of being "sorry." Sorry indeed.
Not an MVP candidate? Let's see--his GAA is .60. Dallas has had a remarkable 14-game (or so) unbeaten streak. Who would YOU think is edging him out of potential nominees?
And if Hartman had gone to clear the ball, and accidentally hit Henry, he would have been DOING HIS JOB.
Just another incident where the ref failed to control the game. FC Dallas seems to think it's alright to play an extremely physical game; like the Netherlands did against Spain. While it was stupid for Henry to go over and kick the ball out from under Hartman's foot it also showed on Dallas'es part an act of desperation to win this game at any cost!!!

@ Andrew: The play was over, Henry had no business kicking the ball. Have you ever refereed a game? If so, you would understand that a referee never tries to determine the intent of a player, as that would require the referee to read the player's mind. What the referee does determine is whether the action was deliberate or an accident. In this case, it was deliberate, as Henry deliberately kicked the ball and Hartman had his foot on the ball. Since I wasn't on the pitch within 5-10 yards of the play, I'll hold off on stating it was with excessive force, but I can say that it was reckless, and Henry should have been cautioned at a minimum.
Hartman clearing the ball would not happen in this situation as the ball was not in play, so no reason to clear it.
