Sanneh extends relief work into Pakistan

Former U.S. international Tony Sanneh arrived in Pakistan on Thursday along with other former soccer players from Germany and New Zealand to help flood victims.

The group was greeted by a modest crowd offering rose garlands at the Karachi international airport as it set out on helping the relief efforts of The Gift of the Givers Foundation, which first worked in Pakistan five years ago following the earthquake that killed almost 80,000 people.

A German television crew plans to film a documentary in the flood-hit areas of Dadu and air it to create awareness in Germany about Pakistan’s flood situation. An estimated 21 million people were left homeless by the flooding that began in July.

Sanneh has also been active in Haitian relief efforts following the earthquake that struck the Caribbean country in January. He has worked with the Los Angeles Galaxy and NSC Minnesota Stars to provide soccer and personal gear to Haitian children. His Sanneh Foundation helped the U-15 L’Athletique d’Haiti attend this year's USA Cup.
