Three fans of Honduran club Motagua were killed and three others injured when gunmen from a passing automobile opened fire on them Sunday as they walked toward Tegucigalpa's Estadio Nacional for
Motagua's match with Real Espana.
A police spokesman speculated that the gunmen could be members of the Mara Salvatrucha or La 18 drug gangs, supporters of Motagua rival Olimpia.
In another incident involving Motagua two days earlier, goalie Donaldo Morales shot Saul Carranza, a reporter for
the sports daily Diez, with an air gun because he was angry that Carranza had written critically about his play in Motagua's 2-2 tie with Vida.
