Toronto FC's parent organization, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, has announced ticket prices for the 2011 season that call for a 34 percent increase (from $315 to $422 -- U.S. dollars) for
the club's hard-core fans who camp out in BMO Field’s south section.
The new package covers four games -- including MLS Cup 2010. The fact that fans can't opt out of buying a
ticket for an event at which TFC is unlikely to participate doesn't make some fans happy.
“The fan that goes to BMO Field and supports Toronto FC should have the option to go to
that final or not,” said Phil Tobin, vice president of the Red Patch Boys supporters group, “because, most likely, and I might be wrong on this, the
team is not going to make the final this year.”
Despite another disappointing season on the field, TFC remains a huge success for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. Besides the
increase in season-ticket prices, it will increase the number of seats made available for season-ticket holders from 16,000 to 18,000 and is benefiting from changes in sales tax laws to the effect of
2 percent on ticket sales.
