Badgers break record for shutout streak

[WISCONSIN WOMEN] After opening with three straight losses, things looked pretty bleak for Wisconsin, but the Badgers have now improved to 6-3-4, going nine-plus games without scoring a goal.

Their 0-0 tie on Sunday with No. 17 Illinois kept them in second place in the Big Ten at the halfway point of the conference season.

Junior goalie Michele Dalton is riding an eight-game shutout streak, and Wisconsin has not given up a goal in the 902 minutes -- a school record.

In addition, the tie extended Wisconsin’s unbeaten streak to 10 games -- the third best run in its history -- after opening with losses to UCLA, Cincinnati and Portland.

“Obviously, it’s always great to get a draw against a team like Illinois,” Wisconsin coach Paula Wilkins said. “The team is disappointed that we couldn’t get a result.  However, I thought that it was a very evenly matched game. Illinois has some very talented midfielders and I was very happy that we were able to shut them down.”
