Beavers sweep UCLA and USC for first time

[OREGON STATE WOMEN] Oregon State did something it has never done before, sweeping UCLA and USC in the same season. The Beavers followed up on their 1-0 win over USC on Friday with a resounding 3-0 victory over UCLA on Sunday afternoon.

"You know, it feels good," Oregon State coach Linus Rhode said following Sunday's win. "The girls are super excited. They have been working hard and not allowing teams to put the ball away. Against top teams like UCLA and USC, playing them and not allowing any goals is fantastic."

The wins extended OSU's winning streak to six straight games and improved its record to 11-1-1.

Chelsea Buckland had the winning goals in both games. She scored with seven minutes to play against USC and scored the first goal against UCLA in the 38th minute.

Lindsay Meiggs made it 2-0 with her first career goal in the 59th minute when she received the ball from senior Courtney Wetzel at the top of the box and shot it over Bruin keeper Chante' Sandiford's head, just under the crossbar. It was Wetzel's team-leading sixth assist of the season.

The Beavers kept attacking the Bruin defense, and the pressure paid off in the 84th minute when Jenna Richardson scored her fourth goal of the season after getting a pass from Milan Cabrera.

Sunday's shutout of UCLA gave junior keeper Colleen Boyd nine on the season, an Oregon State record.
