U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra suffered a neck injury while playing for his French club Saint-Etienne last weekend.
Bocanegra, who is expected to be sidelined for "about
20 days" according to the club's Web site, clashed heads with Nice forward Eric Mouloungui and sprained his neck after falling awkwardly.
St. Etienne, which lost the game
2-1, is in second place after a strong start to the season during which Bocanegra has been one of the team's best players. He joined from Rennes this summer.
