Tri invites college stars for Women's World Cup qualifying

[MEXICO WOMEN] Mexico has invited Stanford sophomore Alina Garciamendez and San Diego junior Natalie Garcia, both defenders, to take part in the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament it will host Oct. 28-Nov. 8 in Cancun.

Garciamendez and Garcia started all four games for Mexico at this year's Under-20 Women's World Cup in Germany.

They remained with their college teams while Mexico has been in South Korea for the Women's Peace Cup.

Among the Mexico players in South Korea is Garcia's former USD teammate, Natalie Vinti.

Other Tri players with U.S. connections include Monica Ocampo of WPS's Atlanta Beat, Leticia Villalpando of the WPSL's San Diego United and Rebecca Mendoza of the WPSL's California Storm.

Rookie Veronica Perez played one minute for WPS's St. Louis Athletica before it folded.
