[VIDEO PICK] SMU junior defender Adam Still scored from 75 yards in the Mustangs’ 3-2 win over Tulsa in Dallas on Wednesday. Last year, SMUalso beat Tulsa, 3-2, getting a goal with a strike from 95 yards.
Still’s long-range shot, which tied the game at 1-1, was his first goal in college play.

A note of irony on two goals getting skyped in against Tulsa . . . In about 2000, my girls were waiting to take the pitch in a desert sirocco in Arizona in the prestigious President’s Day tournament as an epic battle of 2 boys teams played out before our match with tumble weeds blowing from end to end out of the parking lot. A very well coached but overmatched U16 Tulsa team was playing their hearts out and needed a tie to advance to the championship. The opponents looked like men against boys with an advantage at every position by almost every athletic measurement. The big boys were up 3-1 even playing against the wind. The Tulsa defenders were seemingly too tired to help the GK who made save after save. Then with 5 minutes left, the GK punted a ball from his 6 on the dusty gusting desert wind and bounced it just outside the 18 of the tall and formerly cocky opponent in the goal who watched helplessly as it bounced over his head and into the net for 3-2. The big boys bore down, held possession from the kickoff and took it to the attacking third looking like they would run out the clock. The smallish Tulsa GK snagged a cross high outside the 6, sprinted to the 18 and launced another punt with 30 seconds left. Same result on a full sized pitch! I will never forget the sad contortions on the opposing GK’s face as he realized too late the lesson he had not learned from the previous goal. 3-3 and Tulsa advanced.
