Islanders stake out two-goal advantage

[D-2 PRO LEAGUE] The Puerto Rico Islanders got goals from Sandy Gbandi and Jonathan Fana to defeat the Carolina RailHawks, 2-0, on Sunday night in the first leg of the D-2 Pro League final.

Gbandi put the Islanders ahead in the 49th minute when he gained possession of a long throw-in from Marco Velez and fired the ball past Eric Reed.

Carolina had its best chance a minute later but Tom Heinemann's header deflected off the post and wide.

Islanders added a second goal in the 87th minute when Fana split the RailHawks defense and beat goalie Eric Reed.

The second leg will be played Saturday in Cary, N.C.
