After he was caught driving without a license twice in three days in France, you’d think Ivorian international Gervinho would have gotten the point. But no.The Lille star received a 15-month suspended jail term and was fined 20,000 euros ($28,000) for the third offense of driving without a license. The sentence and fine were both in excess of what theprosecutor had requested.

The first time, Gervinho, 23, struck a young motorcyclist after running a stop sign in 2009 while driving home from training near Lille. The victim claimedGervinho refused to give him any information or telephone for help and had tried to buy his silence.

Two days later, Gervinho was stopped by police in possession of a fake Ivoriandrivers’ license. He was stopped a third time in April this year, still without a valid driving license. Gervinho missed the first hearing in June because he was with the Ivory Coast national team atthe World Cup.
