Key FIFA member undecided about U.S. support

Guatemalan soccer federation president Rafael Salguero, one of three Concacaf members of the FIFA executive committee who will vote on the hosts of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup, says he isn't sure if he'll support the USA and its bid to host the 2022 World Cup.

“I don’t know what I’ll do,” Salguero said in an interview. “The U.S. is possible but I can’t say anything at this moment. I’m waiting for the vote, the secret vote.”

Salguero's comments are something of a surprise since it has been assumed the USA had the three Concacaf votes wrapped up. Trinidadian Jack Warner, the Concacaf president, and American Chuck Blazer, the Concacaf general secretary, are the other Concacaf members.

Salguero has been named as one of the Spain-Qatar seven. Seven FIFA executive committee members are alleged to be part of voting bloc between 2018 Spain/Portugal and 2022 Qatar that FIFA is investigating.
