[SOUTH AFRICA-USA] South Africa called up Davide Somma, who grew up in Florida and attended Tyler Junior College before
turning pro, for Wednesday's international friendly against the United States in Cape Town (TV: ESPN2, Galavision, 2 pm ET).
Somma is one of three players called up for the first time along with the Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Siyanda Xulu and Matthew Pattison.
Somma, 25, was born in Johannesburg and now plays for English third division Leeds United, for which he has scored seven goals in 12 games this season. He briefly played for MLS's San Jose Earthquakes after spending four seasons in Italy.
Steven Pienaar will captain Bafana Bafana for the first time in place of Aaron Mokoena.
Coach Pitso Mosimane called up 13 2010 World Cup players for the Nelson Mandela Challenge.
