[WEST VIRGINIA-XAVIER MEN] Down 2-0 after only five minutes, West Virginia stormed back thanks to a hat trick from junior Franck Tayou, and went on to beat upstart Xavier, 4-2, and move into the second round of the NCAA tournament Sunday against No. 1 Akron.

In their NCAA debut, the Musketeersput a scare into the Mountaineers by scoring on James Queree‘s header and an own goal by Raymon Gaddis.

“We were rattled a little bit in the beginning,” Mountaineer coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “The guys were almost too focused and too ready tostart the game. For Xavier to get goals like that, it was tough.”

Tayou scored his first goal in 23rd minute on a rebound off of Xavier’s Justin Marshall save and again in the 32nd minute on assists from Shadow Sebele and Uwem Etuk.

Tayou completed the hat trick only five minutes into the second half off another assist from Sebele. Tayou now has a team-leading nine goals this season, while Sebele leads the team with 11assists.

Etuk scored an insurance goal in the 81st minute, putting on a fantastic dribbling display before ripping a shot past Marshall for his second goal of the season.
