Paradise Valley captures first championship

[NJCAA WOMEN] A first-half goal by Alyssa Flores was enough to give Arizona's Paradise Valley Community College a 1-0 win over defending champion Tyler Junior College in Sunday's NJCAA Division I women's final in Topeka, Kan.

PVCC held off a second-half surge by the Apaches to finish at 24-0-0 and win its first national championship in any sport.

The Pumas swept MVP honors. Breanna Oddo was named Tournament Goalkeeper MVP. Jenna Merill took home the Tournament Forward MVP, while Taylor Ross was named the MVP Defender.

The loss was the first for Tyler in 38 games.
