Defending Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich, after a dismal start, moved into the top five for the first time this season with a 4-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt that extended its unbeaten streak
to seven games.
"That was the best Bundesliga match under my direction," said Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal, who in his first season guided Bayern to the league-cup
double and a runner-up finish in the Champions League.
Bayern is now three points behind third-place Bayer Leverkusen, which sits in the final Champions League qualification spot, but is
still 11 points behind leader Borussia Dortmund.
"We know that we are way behind and are not the favorites and that we need the points," said striker Mario Gomez, who
scored in his seventh consecutive match to take his goals tally to 15 from the last 11 matches in all competitions, including the Champions League, in which Bayern has clinched a spot in the knockout
stage.
