Berbatov ties record with five goals

A 7-1 thrashing of Blackburn in which striker Dimitar Berbatov tied a Premier League record with five goals swept Manchester United into first place Saturday.

Berbatov scored after just 72 seconds, netted again before haltime, and rattled in three more goals in the second half as United took a two-point lead over Chelsea and Arsenal.

Berbatov tied a record held by Andy Cole, Alan Shearer and Jermain Defoe as United cut open Rovers repeatedly. Ji-Sung Park and Nani also scored in the rout.
