Top seed Rio Grande knocked off in first round

[COLLEGE] Unseeded Bethel (Ind.) beat No. 1 seed Rio Grande, 2-1, in the opening game of the NAIA Men's Tournament in Orange Beach, Fla., on Monday.

In a rematch of the 2008 final, Bethel took a 2-0 lead on goals by Dawyne Smith and Mario Vila Boa less than four minutes apart in the second half and held on against the undefeated RedStorm.

Bethel held the nation’s second-best scoring offense off the scoreboard until the 75th minute when sophomore Richard Isberner cut the deficit to 2-1 with his 18th goal of the season on a penalty kick.

Chaz Dachenhaus made three of his seven saves in the final stretch.
