Trinidad & Tobago and Martinique fail to qualify for Gold Cup

[DIGICEL CARIBBEAN CUP] Jamaica, , winner of its third Caribbean title in five years, Guadeloupe, Cuba and Grenada qualified for the 2011 Gold Cup as they claimed the top four places at the Digicel Caribbean Cup held in Martinique. The big losers were Trinidad & Tobago and the hosts, who were eliminated in the first round.

Jamaica beat Guadeloupe, 5-4, in a shootout after Sunday's final ended in a 1-1 tie. The Reggae Boyz were loaded with MLS players: Shavar Thomas, Lovel Palmer, Ryan Johnson, Omar Cummings, Dane Richards and Shaun Francis.

Cuba, which has had a long history of having players defect at the Gold Cup, beat Grenada, 1-0, to capture third place. Sporting Kansas City's Craig Rocastle played for Grenada's Spice Boys.

T&T went out quickly, losing its first two games by shutouts to Cuba and Grenada. Despite the early exit, which means the Soca Warriors won't be playing in the Gold Cup for the second straight tournament, Coach Russell Latapy insisted he wanted to keep his job.
