A task force comprised of Scottish Premier League (SPL) chief executive Neil Doncaster, chairman Ralph Topping and representatives of five clubs is drawing upplans for a revamped, two-tier league of 10 teams each.

The plan, which is not yet finalized, will be presented to clubs next Monday and would include playoffs and an earlier start tofacilitate a winter break. Other facets to the proposal include a regionalized structure to divisions below the top two, as is done in Germany, and ‘B’ squads of SPL teams playing in the lowerdivisions, a la Germany and Spain.

The proposal could be voted on after Monday’s presentation but more likely is a deferral until after the New Year to allow for discussions and possiblechanges.

Under its current format, the 12-team SPL splits in half late in the season for a final round-robin of play to determine the champion and relegated team after 38 games.
