Rossi and Subotic both score

[EUROPA LEAGUE] American products Giuseppe Rossi and Nevan Subotic, who now represent Italy and Serbia, respectively, scored in Europa League action on Wednesday.

Rossi had both goals for Villarreal in its 2-1 win at Club Brugge. U.S. international Jozy Altidore came off the bench for the last 13 minutes. Villarreal won the group ahead of PAOK.

Subotic's goal was for naught as Borussia Dortmund, needing a win to advance, had to settle for a 2-2 tie at Sevilla. Paris St. Germain and Sevilla finished 1-2 in Group J.

The Europa League's group stage concludes on Thursday.

The top two teams in each of the 12 groups join the eight third-place teams in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in the first round of the knockout stage next year.

From what I've read, Rossi is not an "American Product". Yes he could have played for us, but he didn't come through our system. We didn't develop him. He was heading to Italy every summer since he was 11 or 12, and was always looking to play for Italy.

Joe, you're absolutely right...Rossi developed his skills and potential at Parma, but he did play on youth traveling teams in NJ (refed one of his games and he was truly special; his comfort on the ball was amazing)...I for one think that Rossi made the right decision to develop his potential in Italy; one, he succeeeded and two, he avoided the pitfalls of Freddy Adu.
