Borussia Dortmund eyes half-season record

German leader Borussia Dortmund can set a Bundesliga record when it plays at Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend in the final round before the winter break. A win would give it 46 points at the season's halfway mark, breaking the record of 44 points Bayern Munich had halfway through the 2005-06 season.

Dortmund already broke a Bundesliga record with eight straight wins on the road. It will have to overcome the disappointment of being eliminated from the Europa League on Wednesday with a 2-2 draw in Sevilla. "We don't need to grieve, it won't negatively impact on the day to day of the Bundesliga,'' defender Mats Hummels said.

Bayer Leverkusen is in second place, 11 points behind Dortmund, which has a 17-point lead over defending champion Bayern Munich. Dortmund has conceded only nine goals while scoring 39 and has 14 wins and one tie since losing the season-opener to Leverkusen.
