Howard is the man against Manchester City

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Tim Howard came up with his biggest effort of 2010-11 season, leading Everton to a 2-1 win at Manchester City, which would have moved into first place in the English Premier League with a win.

Everton, which moved into a tie for 13th place with the win, took a 2-0 lead on goals by Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines in the first 19 minutes, and Howard the held off a City onslaught.

City had a 25-4 edge in shots and 11-0 advantage in corner kicks, but its only goal came on a Phil Jagielka own goal in the 72nd minute.

Six minutes later, Mario Balotelli lobbed Howard, but his shot hit the post and rebounded to Carlos Tevez, whose shot was blocked by Howard.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Howard again stopped Tevez to preserve the win, only Everton's fourth in 18 games.

Cahill credited Howard with rescuing the Toffees.

"He’s been the man, not just this season but all the other seasons as well. That’s what he brings to the team. There are times in games when we look to him to get us out of it and tonight he did that."
