Canadian phenom to announce retirement at 24

Kara Lang, the former Canadian women's phenom, is expected to announce her retirement Wednesday at the age of 24.

Lang became the youngest player to score a goal at the senior level when she scored twice for Canada against Wales at the age of 15, but she has been plagued by knee problems in recent years that limited her playing time and reduced her status to that of a reserve for the W-League's Vancouver Whitecaps and the Canadian national team.

Lang scored 34 goals (including two goals as a 16-year-old at the 2003 Women's World Cup) in 92 appearances for Canada. She first tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee in 2006 and suffered the same injury again in 2009, her last season at UCLA.
