Ronaldinho deal held up by hefty price tag

Ronaldinho and his agent were in Brazil Wednesday to meet with AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani and conclude a transfer to Gremio.

A price tag of 8 million euros ($10.8 million) had been put by Milan on Ronaldinho's contract, which pays him that same salary annually but has only a few more months to run. Though rival club Flamengo has reportedly offered more money it appears Ronaldinho wishes to return to the club with which he started his career before leaving for French club Paris St. Germain in 2001. Milan paid Barcelona nearly $40 million to buy Ronaldinho from Barcelona in July, 2008.

Bids from English club Blackburn, Brazilian rival Palmeiras, and the interest of the Los Angeles Galaxy are, at this point, non-factors.

"If it was up to me, I would already be wearing Gremio’s jersey, even making less money,” Ronaldinho was quoted as saying by the GloboEsporte.com web site. “The problem is not the offer (the clubs) made me, but it’s what Milan is asking for. No one has gotten close.”
