[ASIAN CUP] Iman Mobali scored on a free kick with six minutes to play to give Iran a 2-1 win over its archrival Iraq,
the defending champion, at the Asian Cup on Tuesday. Iran is coached by Afshin Ghotbi, the former U.S. national team scout and Los Angeles Galaxy assistant.
Captain Younis Mahmood had put Iraq ahead in the 13th minute, but Gholam Reza Rezai equalized shortly before halftime.
Born in Tehran, Ghotbi moved to southern California with his family in 1977. He was a soccer standout at Glendale and attended UCLA.
Ghotbi has spent the majority of his pro coaching career in South Korea.
North Korea and the United Arab Emirates played to a 0-0 tie in Tuesday's other Group D game.
