Ruud Gullit, whose last coaching stint was a short, unsuccessful one with the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2008, has been named coach Chechen club Terek Grozny of the of Russian PremierLeague.

The 48-year-old Dutchman’s playing career included World Player of the Year honors, a European Championship with the Netherlands and two European Cups with AC Milan. He has alsocoached Chelsea, Newcastle United and Feyenoord.

“Chechen and Terek president Ramzan Kadyrov has appointed Ruud Gullit the team’s head coach,” Terek saidon their website (www.fc-terek.ru). “Ranzan Kadyrov also declared the task for Gullit — to qualify the club for European competition at the end of the coming 2011-12 season.

Terek finished12th in the 16-team Premier League last year under Spanish coach Victor Munoz.
