Fourteen Serbs were convicted by a Belgrade court for the fatal beating of a French soccer fan in front of a downtown cafe in the Serbian capital before Partizan Belgrade’s Europa Cup matchagainst Toulouse on Sept. 17, 2009.

The Frenchman, 28-year-old Brice Taton, was cornered by the attackers cornered the man, hit with iron bars, and thrown him down anarrow stairway.

The men were sentenced to between 4 and 35 years in prison. The four ringleaders receiving sentences of between 30 and 35 years in jail.

Hundreds of Partizanfans and family members of the convicted men gathered at the court for the reading of the verdict. Some sobbed and others protesting by shouting “you will pay for this” at the judges.
