New Jersey-born forward Giuseppe Rossi, who leads the Spanish club with with 19 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions this season, has agreed to a three-year contract
extension with Villarreal through the 2015-16 season. Eleven of his goals have come in La Liga play.
Rossi, 22, who was born to Italian parents in Teaneck and raised in Clifton, left the
USA one month shy of his 13th birthday to join Parma's youth academy. He moved on to Manchester United and ultimately landed with Spanish La Liga club Villarreal, for which he has 66 goals in 121
appearances.
After turning down invitations to play for te USA, Rossi made his Italian national team debut in 2008. He has three goals in 18 appearances for the Azzurri but was left off
the 2010 World Cup squad.
